Watford defender David Mirfin will complete his move to former club Scunthorpe United today.

Mirfin joined the Hornets on a free transfer from Scunthorpe last summer but was unable to break into the team and was loaned out to Alan Knill's side for the second half of the season.

The 27-year-old made 19 appearances for the Iron during his loan spell and played a huge role as the club avoiding relegation from League One.

Scunthorpe have wanted to sign Mirfin on a permanent deal all summer but were initially rebuffed by the Hornets' previous regime.

Scunny have very little money but were still hoping to secure a loan deal after the initial rejection.

However, Mirfin is again surplus to requirements at Watford following the Pozzo takeover and has now been allowed to leave the club.

It is unclear whether Mirfin's move is a free transfer or for a nominal fee.

Mirfin has had his medical today and the signing should be confirmed within 24 hours.
