Watford Ladies opened the pre-season calendar with a 4-2 win over West Ham Ladies at the Chadwell Heath training ground.

Goals from Irene Martin Garcia, Sarah Wiltshire, Paige Logie and Emma Beckett were enough to see off a spirited West Ham side, which provided stiff opposition for 90 minutes.

Martin Garcia gave Watford the perfect start shortly after kick-off firing the Golden Girls ahead with a shot in off the underside of the bar from 25 yards. Just seven minutes later, Wiltshire made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after she was brought down in the West Ham area, before picking herself up and slotting home her spot-kick.

New signing Hollie Augustus was forced into action on more than one occasion as West Ham endeavoured to fight back, before Wiltshire forced a good save from the keeper at the other end.

Martin Garcia saw a goal disallowed before West Ham rattled the bar and then pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 shortly after 30 minutes.

Watford quickly restored their two goal lead after good work by Wiltshire out wide finding the head of Logie to make it 3-1 to Watford.

Despite their efforts, it was Watford that would go 4-1 up thanks to Beckett's header from a Cally Rowell corner on 75 minutes, which effectively killed off the game for West Ham.

There was still time for the East Londoners to pull a consolation goal back to make it 4-2, with Katie Knell narrowly missing out on making it 5-2 after hitting the post late on.

Manager John Salomon said: "The foundations are there and there is plenty of work to be done, but I was really pleased by the girls' attitude and the way they applied themselves in conditions that did not make it easy for them."

The Hornets go on to face FAWPL Southern Division side Gillingham this Sunday.

Following Watford Ladies' recent re-location to Berkhamsted, the club will be putting on some promotional events in Berkhamsted town centre on Saturday, August 4 to help raise the club's profile and advertise the upcoming season in the FA Women's Premier League National Division.

The club will be running a stall at the town's busy Saturday market and giving away posters, fixture lists. The coaching staff will also be running events between 10am and 1pm at Berkhamsted Moor.
