It certainly has been a season of two halves for Watford Ladies as they still wait on other results to ensure their Women’s Premier League future.

After only collecting one point in their opening ten matches, the Hornets have fought back and are now hoping Nottingham Forest lose their final match against Coventry City to secure saftey.

Watford’s top scorer Sarah Wiltshire admits it has been an incredible effort from the Hornets after the poor start to the campaign.

She said: "The second half of the season has been amazing. All the young players that have come into the team have really stepped up and we have finished the season really strongly and where we've finished is incredible considering we only had one point from the first ten games."

While Wiltshire has had a productive season at club level, her talents have also been recognised on the international stage.

She recently travelled with the Welsh national side that were preparing for a European Championship Qualifier in France.

The qualifier was televised in France and had viewing figures of over a million, with attendance of 16,000 at the Stade D'Ornano, Caen.

"The kick off time for the match was quite late in the evening, so it meant that I was nervous for most of the day," said Wiltshire.

"It was an amazing experience and a moment I won't forget. If only women’s football had those sorts of crowds every week."

She added: "It was really good and I really liked being able to train every day with such great players.

"They're a great bunch of girls, so it was really easy to be with the Wales squad for that amount of time. It definitely beats being at work."

Wiltshire had once been part of the England set up, but after some time away from the squad she made the decision to change allegiance.

Watford team mate Megan Wynne was another reason to join up with the Welsh national side.

Wiltshire said: "She has been with the Wales set up for a couple of years, and she had always told me good things about it, and then when I went on my first training camp I really enjoyed it.

"I can't believe everything that's happened this season.

"Obviously being picked in the Wales squad was a great honour for me but also playing in the recent Nottingham Forest match and being able to get that vital win was amazing, and we're now just keeping our fingers crossed that the other results go our way."
