Saracens' newest star Joel Tomkins admitted he was never going to be rushed into the side after scoring twice on his debut.
The talented outside centre made his first appearance for the Premiership champions, in their LV= Cup win over Worcester Warriors, two months after switching codes from rugby league.
The former Wigan player said: "I've been down here less than two months and come into a completely different sport so anybody who thinks it was going to happen overnight is kidding themselves.
"To get out playing by this time was pretty good. All the coaches have worked really hard with me and I feel like I'm at a stage where I can compete and that's where I want to be.
"It was a nice little bonus getting two tries but it was about the forwards for me. I thought they were outstanding and they laid the platform. The backs scored some nice tries but the forwards worked really hard."
