The Hornets have not received a second bid for Adrian Mariappa despite reports to the contrary this afternoon, the Watford Observer understands.
Newcastle United had an initial bid turned down on Monday and there were reports this afternoon claiming a second bid had been rejected.
But sources have told the Watford Observer that the Hornets have not received a second bid for the centre half, who has made 244 appearances for the club since graduating from the academy.
There has been speculation surrounding Mariappa all week and this morning it was reported that the 25-year-old had turned down a new contract, which included an £800 pay rise.
The Hornets refused to comment on Mariappa's contract situation, with their head of football business Ross Wilson saying: "Private matters such as players contracts will not be discussed in public by Watford Football Club."
