Watford's head of football business has refused to comment on claims Newcastle United target Adrian Mariappa has turned down a new contract.
Mariappa, who has 18 months left on his current deal, was the subject of a bid from Newcastle at the beginning of the week, which was quickly rejected by the Hornets.
It has been reported this morning that Mariappa turned down an £800 pay rise from the club and whilst the Hornets won't comment on the matter, we understand the defender would treble his wages if he signed for Newcastle.
Watford's head of football business Ross Wilson told the Watford Observer: "Private matters such as players contracts will not be discussed in public by Watford Football Club."
