Sean Dyche’s reassuring words were all Colchester boss John Ward needed before taking Watford youngster Gavin Massey on loan.
The young striker joined the U’s this (Thursday) morning having impressed Ward earlier in the season when he scored twice against Colchester while on loan at Yeovil Town.
However, before taking the 19-year-old to the Weston Homes Community Stadium, Ward, who managed Dyche at Bristol City, spoke to his former captain about the youngster.
“He is a young man that Watford think will get in their first team and Sean was keen to get him here and for us to help push him on,” Ward told the club’s official website.
“He is fit and up to speed after his spell at Yeovil and we've got a player who has pace and strength.
“Once he went back to Watford last week, he came to mind as being a player we'd like. Sean was my captain when I was in charge at Bristol City, so I trust his thoughts and we're pleased to get him here at the football club.”
