A superb second half comeback from Mill Hill wasn’t enough to avoid defeat at the hands of Watford who took the points with a narrow 17-20 win.
The early stages were an even contest with both teams reluctant to get forward and gamble fearing the risk of making a costly mistake.
As the half wore on the away side began to assert their dominance and went ahead in sensational fashion.
Fast distribution allowed the backs to stretch their legs and find Richard Yates who sprinted 50 meters to touch down.
Mill Hill offered little in the way of attacking creativity but kept in touch via the boot of their consistent number ten.
It was his kicking that put them in range and a quick exchange allowed them to score a well worked try.
A forceful Watford line out allowed Luke Hammill the space to score under the posts, which was quickly followed by their third, Scott Menzies going over just before half time.
Watford attempted to exert their dominance throughout the second half but a negative penalty count of 29-9 repeatedly cost them possession.
This eventually cost them more than field territory as Mill Hill capitalised and scored to make it 17-20 with five minutes remaining.
Both sides had the opportunity to score a deciding try in the final minutes, but it was Watford who snatched the win.
Watford Under-17s secured yet another convincing league victory, beating rivals Tickenham 29-5 to rise to third in the league.
The home side opened the scoring through Jack Beasley who powered past the Tickenham defense from a scrum.
Stuart Hall doubled the lead moments before half time when he chased down his speculative kick to make 14-0.
Beasley opened the second half with a penalty, and Ben Batchelor added more points when he went over to make it 24-0.
Rhys Lloyd added a final try before the away side grabbed a late consolation five minutes from time.
