Herts Sunday Junior Cup Round Five

A fine performance from each of the remaining four WSFL sides left in the county Junior Cup saw them all progress to the last eight of the competition to again underline the league's all-round strength.

Leading the way were The Bell, who trounced Roebuck Gate 11-1 thanks to hat-tricks from Dean Higgs and Danny Fielding, a brace from Jack Waterford and further goals from Aaron Higgs, Jamie Higgs and Dom David .

Perpetual goalscoring Oxhey Jets Vets star Lewis Putman helped his side to a comfortable 5-2 away win, with four goals against Olympian League outfit Old Danes Athletic. Michael McRoberts completed the win.

Two-goal Sledge Mubama fired Railway Arms to an impressive 2-1 win over Sumners Athletic and Evergreen completed the league's 100 per cent record in this round, also recording a 2-1 victory against fancied Paddy's. Brothers Andy and Joe Murphy got the all-important goals.

However, at least one of the four sides will go out in the quarter-finals as Railway Arms have been drawn against Evergreen. Jets Vets are at home to the fancied Skew Bridge and The Bell also face a tough test, away to the well-fancied Cheshunt Town. The last-eight ties are due to be played on Sunday, February 5.

WSFL Intermediate Cup Round Two

When the top teams of Divisions One and Two meet you would expect a great game and FC Crescent and AFC Spartians didn't disappoint, with the higher-placed side prevailing 4-2 after extra-time.

Luke Beardsworth scored a magnificent hat-trick for Crescent, with Dean Collum also on target, while Ryan Worley and Liam Stapleton replied for Spartians.

Premier Division

The two front runners in the top division are continuing to pull away from the other sides, with Bushey leading Oakview by four points having played two games more.

Bushey had a convincing 5-0 away win at Gadeside Rangers, with a fine hat-trick from Jamie Brown leading the way. Chris Keppel and Louis Stead scored one each.

Oakview demolished Carpenders Park Rangers 10-1 after Tim O’Mara had scored three, Lee Armitt twice and Adam Lowton, Anthony Shepard, Lee Inch and Andy Lomas all weighed in with one apiece, alongside an own goal. Hugo Figuierdo netted CPR's consolation.

Oxhey Estates and Hammer OGB shared a 1-1 draw, with Luke Lloyd scoring for Estates and Mark Hansard replying.

Division One

CK Guild failed to take top spot in the league after being held to a 1-1 draw by a well organised Watford Irish side.

After Irish had taken the lead against the run of play through Ritchie Barnes, it was one-way traffic as Roger Maule and Karim El-Janfali hit the woodwork before Gary Hayne equalised as the clock was counting down.

But fos some wasteful finished by Lewis Martindale and Aaron Farrell, Guild would have taken all three points and manager Tony Hrano admitted: "We had enough chances to win but fair play to the Irish, they defended for their lifes".

United and Radlett Road shared four goals which must have disappointed Radlett, who were trying to get into the top three places.

Vilson Culaj and Gary Froy scored for United, with Steven Harper and David Smith for Radlett.

West Herts went nap against Green Dragon as Richard Akinlawon and Kayon Howells shared four goals and Daniel Strachinaru got the other.

Division Two

Europcar kept up their promotion push with a hard-fought 3-2 success at Hammer OGB Reserves.

The visitors began the game brightly and took the lead inside the opening ten minutes when the dvision's top marksman Hugh Trayte smashed home from the edge of the area.

This sparked Hammer into life and 15 minutes later a ball into the box found an unmarked Alan Dunton, who equalised with ease.

The hosts dominated the rest of the half and had chances to go in front but they were denied by the post and some good stops from Europcar keeper Dan Muskett.

The second period began fairly evenly with both teams creating chances but midway through the half it was Europcar who went back in front when Rhys Williams blasted in from 20 yards after good work from Trayte.

The points looked to be in the bag when Trayte scored his second after beating the offside trap but Hammer set up a nervy last two minutes when they hit back through Chris Blunden.

Chorleywood had a comfortable 4-0 away victory at Sun Postal Sports to close the gap on the top three with three games in hand. Andy Rockett, with a double, and one each from Michael East and Tom Toomey secured the victory.

Division Three

AFC Bushey pulled level with Oxhey Jets Vets but having played two games more and with an inferior goal difference of 77 they must keep their foot on the pedal.

Strugglers Sun Postal United ran them very close before Bushey prevailed 4-3 with goals from Rob Ladmore (2), Craig Smith and Lewis Lynas.

AFC Oddfellows had a good result by holding Shenley Dynamos to a 3-3 draw thanks to a brace from Sean Osler-Roche and an own goal.

In another close game, The Pavillion drew 2-2 with Oxhey Estates Reserves thanks to Ashley Armstrong and Ryan Walsh. Dean Ayres and Rob Fordham were on target for Oxhey.

Division Four

Four games produced 28 goals and the leadership changed hands after Langleybury CC Reserves won 5-1 against third-placed West Herts Reserves and took over at the summit for the time being as Evergreen, who have four games in hand, were not playing.

Charlie Hailey led the way for Langleybury with a hat-trick and Aaron Whittingham and Denie Malollari were also on target, with Andreas Dembacher replying.

Woodlands United, also with games in hand, are another team moving in the right direction after a big 7-2 victory over fourth-placed Gadeside Rangers Reserves.

Mark Mullane hit four goals with the others from Leigh Harrington, Floyd Tate and Craig Hepworth, while Joao Ribiero and Spencer Edwards netted for Gadeside.

Carpenders Park Rangers Reserves hammered strugglers Dome Bar Rangers Reserves away 5-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Paul Page, with Matt Austin also featuring on the scoresheet.

In the battle of the strugglers, Green Dragon Res defeated AFC Bushey Reserves 6-1, with their consolation netted by Scott Mitchell.
