Josh Walker's unsuccessful spell at Watford looks likely to end in the near future with Scunthorpe United keen to sign the midfielder.
Walker is back at the Hornets' London Colney training base after spending the last couple of weeks on trial at Scunthorpe.
The two clubs are in negotiations about a move to Glanford Park on a permanent deal and sources tell us there is a "strong possibility" the transfer will be completed in the coming days.
Walker, who joined the Hornets on a free transfer in the summer of 2010, will only command a minimal fee as he has made just seven appearances for the club and has only six months left on his contract. Middlesbrough would also be entitled to some of the small sum due to a sell-on agreed when he moved in August 2010.
The 22-year-old has spent most of his time at Vicarage Road out on loan, with two brief spells at Stevenage and he finished last season at Northampton, where he made 19 appearance.
Walker graduated from the Middlesbrough Academy and made his first team debut in May 2006, making 13 appearances for Boro in total. He has previously captained England at every age group from Under-16 to Under-20.
