Headstone Athletic carried on their winning run after a 3-2 away win over fellow title contenders Cassiobury Rangers, but they left it late.

Athletic were made to fight for the three points and their ninth successive league win of the season after Chris Gough had given them a dream start with a long-range effort after just two minutes.

Rangers fought back and drew level ten minutes before half-time with a fine goal from Chris Bignall.

The second period saw a repeat of the first, with Gough scoring two minutes after the resumption. But Cassiobury dominated the second half and equalised for a second time 20 minutes from time when Darren Coombs fired home a Ben Davies free-kick.

Rangers continued to control the game but failed to take several good chances, and they were left to rue these in the final minute when from a swift Headstone counter-attack, Dan Page was brought down in the area and Terry Flaherty slotted home the penalty to take the victory.

Colne Valley are back up into second place, two points behind Headstone, although they have played three games more after an easy 7-0 win over bottom-placed Loop Construction.

Tom Seamons scored a hat-trick, supported by two goals from Andy Bisley and others from Martin Skinner and Tom Dyson.

Tudor Athletic dropped two points as they could only draw 0-0 with Kings Langley.

In a game in which both sides cancelled each other out, the closest the deadlock came to being broken was when Tudor's Gary Warne struck the crossbar in the second half.

In the relegation battle between Colne Valley Blues and Inter, the points were shared in a 2-2 draw.

Dan Banderett gave Blues the lead after five minutes but Inter drew level through Joel Fisher.

In the second half, Inter went ahead thanks to a bizarre goal when a clearance from the Blues keeper hit the leg of his own defender and rebounded back past him into the net.

It was not enough for Inter to claim the win though, as substitute Steve Mayers equalised with five minutes to spare.

Old Danes' run came to end with a 5-2 home defeat by the favourites for the competition, Watford Sunday League side Oxhey Jets Vets, but not after taking a two-goal lead through a Glenn O'Malley penalty and a goal from Ross Bennett.

The game turned just before half-time when Jets equalised, and in the second half they scored three times without reply.

Colne Valley Royals enjoyed a first win under new manager Rob Day as they beat Cassiobury Revolution 4-0.
