Hemel Hempstead Fifths battled to an 18-run win over Luton Town and Indians Fourths in Herts Division 12.

Matt Anderton made a major impact on his return from South Africa as he score 139 not out at Lancaster Avenue. His form helped Hemel post an excellent total of 239 for eight.

It wasn’t all plain sailing as Luton coasted to 121 without loss. But a superb performance from Nick Jones put the game beyond doubt. He ran through the Luton innings with eight for 55 from 16 overs to seal a hard-fought victory.

Berkhamsted Fourths countered their Third team’s defeat at the hands of Leverstock Green with a convincing win over their opposing club’s Fourth team.

Levy could muster only 100, given the rare chance to play at Bedmond Road with the Firsts not yet in action.

Only openers Will Murray (24) and Dave Cardy (18) offered some resistance before a feeble collapse. The bright spot for Green came with young teenager Harry Walters taking two Berko wickets before they ran out comfortable victors.

Met Police Bushey Thirds thrashed newly-promoted Bentley Heath Seconds by eight wickets.

Star player Andy Burrows took three for 17 and Matt Campbell claimed three for 25 which left Bentley Heath reeling on 50 for nine. Only an entertaining last wicket partnership of 29 saved Bentley Heath from total embarrassment as they were out for 79.

Greg Keene top scored with 48 for Met Police and Sid Anwar struck 26 as they coasted to the total before tea.
