Leverstock Green Thirds engineered a thrilling penultimate-ball finish in Herts Division Nine at Castle Hill with captain Mike Parkes guiding a selection of lower-order partners towards Berkhamsted Thirds’ impressive target of 230.
Green run machine Chris Murton hit 87 to kick off the chase in fine style, but it wasn’t until number six Gareth Tucker (56) and Abbas Ali put on over 70 for the sixth wicket that Levy were back in the hunt.
Parkes’ undefeated 22 was aided by a useful 11 from Matt Lake - who’d earlier taken three Berko wickets with his off-spin - as the skipper and tail-ender Rory Allan scampered through for victory with one ball and one wicket left.
