Malky Mackay is looking forward to Saturday’s end-of-season walk around the Vicarage Road pitch so he can show the fans “he doesn’t take them for granted”.
The clash with Queens Park Rangers is the last home game of the 2010/11 campaign which means the players and coaching staff should have their annual end-of-season walk around Vicarage Road.
“It is great if you have done ok but it is not if you haven’t,” Mackay joked when asked about the tradition.
“No, it gives me a chance to basically thank our fans for the support they have given myself, my staff and my players this season. The fans have been an absolute credit and it is an important one for us because I don’t take our fans for granted.
“They are good people and they have had to go through an awful lot of ups and downs in the last few years.
“At the start of the season I promised them the players would have sweat on the yellow jersey every time they played. There would be mistakes made because youngsters have that inconsistency but what they would see from my team is people sweating for the Watford colours.
“The fans have seen that, they have seen some youngsters coming through and they have seen, at times, attractive football and football which has produced goals.
“I thank them for their patience and their support this season.”
