A higher than usual number of votes were received but they have all been counted and once again there is unanimity over who will receive the Watford Observer Trophy before tomorrow’s (Saturday’s) final home game of the season against Queens Park Rangers.
The players, fans and away supporters all decided the same player should be the 39th recipient of a prestigious award that lists Ross Jenkins, Wilf Rostron, John McClelland, Kevin Miller, Tommy Mooney and last year’s victor, Tom Cleverley, among its previous winners.
The trophy will be presented on the pitch at approximately 2.45pm before it is handed over for a second time at the club’s annual awards dinner at Shendish Manor Hotel on Sunday.
Although the points margin was not as large, there was also agreement between the three voting categories over which goal should succeed Lloyd Doyley’s memorable effort against Queens Park Rangers as the stand-out strike of the current campaign, albeit after a two-horse race with the runner-up.
There is no surprise that top scorer Danny Graham has featured in the top ten, although he will have to wait until the weekend to see if he has any goals in the leading five.
