Chorleywood overcame a few hiccups along the way to eventually beat Players and Jesters by 31 runs in their friendly.
Wood batted first and posted an impressive 216 for nine in their 45 overs. A number of batsmen got starts but none went on to make a really telling contribution with Mike Reeve, Freddie Dare and Jeremy Hinds all being dismissed in the 30s.
Neil Ret top-scored for the home side with 44 before he was dismissed from the last ball of the innings as he tried to hit a six to bring up his half-century.
Chorleywood’s bowlers then put in a disciplined display which always kept Players and Jesters behind the run-rate and under pressure to find big shots.
Martin Henderson picked up two wickets in his nine-over spell to take him past 100 wickets for Wood whilst Sujoy Dey continued his impressive weekend with two for 28.
In the end, the finish came quickly for the visitors with a brilliant leg-side stumping by Fredde Dare and two run outs in two overs taking Wood to a deserved victory.
Chorleywood Seconds cruised to a 218-run win over Chenies and Latimer.
Wood batted first and racked up an impressive 278 for two, which also included three batsmen retiring after reaching their half-centuries in order to give their team-mates the chance to spend some time at the crease.
Skipper Simon Dare (53), and youngsters Tom Wilson (50) and Matt Rose (50) all made telling contributions as they put the visitors’ bowling to all parts of the ground.
In the field, Wood ripped into Chenies’ batsmen with debutant Sujoy Dey impressing as his took three for ten in his opening spell before wily veteran Mick Rose stepped in and showed his class with three for 13 to mop up the tail and finish off the most straightforward win they may have all season.
