Ross Jenkins is expected to miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury but Malky Mackay does not expect Watford to have any fresh injuries going into tomorrow's game with Leicester City.

Jenkins had regained his place in the side recently following Stephen McGinn's serious knee injury but came off around the half-hour mark at Leeds United.

Speaking last night, Watford manager Mackay said: “Ross suffered ankle damage at Leeds and it is certainly going to see him out until at least the Preston game [on May 7], if not beyond. It is a big blow for us.”

The Hornets will also be without forward Matty Whichelow after he was stretchered off during the Reserves' 2-2 draw with Stevenage on Tuesday night.

“Matty will definitely not be involved at Leicester,” Mackay confirmed.

“We will just have to wait and see whether he can make QPR.”

Watford had a worrying moment when Danny Graham went down in pain during the second half after a strong challenge from Barnsley midfielder Jacob Mellis.

But the Championship's leading scorer finished the game following treatment and Mackay does not expect any of yesterday's 18-man squad to be ruled out tomorrow.

The Scot said: “At first glance I would say we have not got any fresh injuries from the Barnsley game. Danny took a heavy knock near the end but it is just a knock.

“We will have a look at them in the warm down tomorrow [Sunday] but we haven't at the moment.”

With the likes of Tom Aldred and Michael Bryan also unavailable due to injury, Mackay called up Academy players Adam Thompson and Gavin Massey yesterday.

First-year scholar Sean Murray is also expected to travel with the squad to Leicester and Mackay insists the trio's involvement was not just because the season is coming to a close.

Mackay said: “You certainly don't need these injuries at this time of the season because we are down to the bare bones. Including the scholars in the squad for Barnsley was not me just wanting to play 18 year olds, I needed to.

“Ross has had a lot of form recently and Matty has come on and influenced games as well. So it is disappointing that we have lost those two.

“But there have been set backs and adversity all year, for all the clubs, and you just need to be mentally strong and get on with it.”
