Matty Whichelow was stretchered off last night as first-year scholar Dereece Gardner salvaged a point for Watford Reserves at Stevenage.
Whichelow was one of three players to go off injured, with Britt Assombalonga also being stretchered off and Tom Aldred being forced off after a clash of heads. But all three players were not seriously hurt, according to the club’s website.
It was Gardner who replaced Whichelow just after the half-hour mark and the 16-year-old striker scored two second-half goals to pull level after Stevenage had gone 2-0 up at the Lamex Stadium.
Watford: Bond; Thompson, Bennett, Aldred (Hoban HT), Tumwa; Horner, Isaac, Mingoia, Murray; Whichelow (Gardner 33), Assombalonga (Hamilton Forbes 49).
