Watford Internet FC’s four-game winning run came to an abrupt end in the East End on Saturday as West Ham ran out 3-0 winners.
West Ham were on the front foot straight away and showed why they are currently the leading English side in the IFA League with some good attacking football.
But Watford IFC, who are a team of Hornets fans who travel the country playing other club’s supporters’ teams, were in no mood to cave in and youngster Josh Freedman and the more experienced Mat Ball led a resolute defensive performance from the Hornets.
The only clear-cut chance of the first half fell to the IFA's leading scorer Will Bush but Watford keeper Jeremy Hinds was equal to it and made a great stop with his feet to keep the score goalless at the break.
The second half was a different story. With Watford IFC offering little going forward, the home side's pressure told and Jacob Chilton opened the scoring.
Rich Heywood soon added a second before Hammers’ player-manager Sam Miles completed the scoring.
Watford continued to try to grab a consolation goal, with Joel Moody probing on the right wing, but it wasn't to be.
WIFC manager Dave Messenger remained upbeat after the game. He said: “It was a good effort from our lads. We were competitive in the first half without really threatening, and West Ham were worthy winners.
“It's our first defeat for a while, but we can't be too disappointed as they are one of the best sides in the league.
“We still have big games to come this season and are still nicely placed for a possible top ten finish if we can bag a few more wins."
The WIFC bandwagon rolls on to Leeds this Saturday before the supporters make their way to Elland Road for the first team match.
