Tabard were left rueing their missed opportunities as they lost 25-6 to a clinical Bury St Edmunds side in London League One North on Saturday.
Bury started the game the stronger of the two sides but Tabard weren't going to go down without a fight.
Responding to the early pressure Bury were heaping on them, Tabard began to break into the game, applying their own pressure and if it wasn't for the careless penalties they conceded, may have taken the lead themselves.
However, Bury were shrewd and took the penalties well, putting numbers behind the ball to support the carrier. Second row Walker soon converted, allowing stand-off Kramme an easy conversion.
However this did not faze a determined Tabard side as they dominated the rest of the half doing everything but score. Chris Van der Vlugt, one of the Lake twins, and Cam O'Connor all came close for the home side.
As Tabard came closer to what appeared to be an inevitable, and deserved, try, they did not appear to be getting the decisions of the referees and despite being awarded five penalties, no penatly try was given. As a result Tabard finished the half 7-0 down.
The second half started with Bury in the ascendancy but not for long as Tabard once again ground their way upfield in an attempt to put points on the board.
And finally their moment came. Van der Vlugt, after coming so close before half time, kicked through and as Bury fumbled the touch down, he followed his kick and touched down to bring Tabard within two points.
Tabard grew in stature as the game progressed heaping the pressure on the weakening Bury. However, in a true reflection of the rest of the game, they failed to capitalise on their pressure, and from winger Turner's long kick, Bury outpaced the Tabard defence and touched down for their second try of the game.
Despite dominating possession, and an impressive resistence to the Bury attack, the deficit was just too much for Tabard.
As the clock ran down and the game progressed, Tabard started to run out of ideas and in the dying minutes Bury snatched two quick tries from centre Ball and number eight Lang. Both of these tries were converted which sealed their win.
Tabard will be hoping to learn from their mistakes and end their season on a high as they face Letchworth next week in their final game of the season.
