Parmiter’s School became the inaugural Harry Harrison Cup winners after beating Sir John Lawes School 22-5 in the Herts RFU Under-18 Trophy final.
The Garston school started the brighter of the two teams and were rewarded for their efforts after only ten minutes when flanker Jack Baron broke the line for the first time and raced away to score under the posts. Sam Clark converted for Parmiter’s to take the lead to 7-0.
For the last part of the first half, Parmiter’s had to fight to keep the Sir John Lawes forwards away from their line. The fierce tackling of Baron, Will Gardner and the rest of the side paid dividends as they were able to force them back and retain their fragile lead.
In the second half, Baron combined with the backs to drive through powerfully for his second try of the game. Parmiter’s were now in the ascendancy and had two kickable penalty attempts that went just wide.
Parmiter’s continued to dominate and saved their best for halfway through the second period. From a penalty inside the Sir John Lawes 22, Rory Heath started a move that went though the entire Parmiter’s backline before a single handed flick from behind the back of Max O’Driscoll found winger Joe Hardie for another try.
Hardie added a second shortly after to put the game out of sight. Sir John Lawes were rewarded for their efforts with a consolation try in the dying minutes following a solid passage of play from their forwards.
Captain Sam Clark stepped up to be the first player to lift the Harry Harrison Cup as Parmiter’s claimed the trophy.
