Watford are trying to find a new club for Liam Henderson after Colchester United confirmed the striker’s loan will not be renewed.
Henderson did not make a single league or FA Cup start for Colchester during his three-month loan spell and was limited to eight substitute appearances and an FA Trophy start.
So the Hornets have decided to recall the 21-year-old so they can find a new club where he will play more often.
Colchester manager John Ward told the club’s website: "We left Liam out today [yesterday’s 4-2 defeat to Leyton Orient] as he's due to go back to Watford.
“They're keen for him to get out and play some games and, although he would like to stay here, he knows that he needs to play games as well.
"He has really enjoyed being here and being around the first team squad, and I will certainly be keeping an eye on his progress because he's not only a good player, but he's been a good lad whilst he's been here."
Henderson, who has also spent time on loan at Wealdstone and Hartlepool United, has yet to score for Watford in 21 substitute appearances.
