Malky Mackay believes it is easy to forget Jordon Mutch is only 18 years old after the Birmingham City loanee’s impressive form recently.

On Monday, Mutch was named in the Championship’s Team of the Week for the second time in three weeks.

The former Derby County trainee had a slightly slow start to his Watford career but the midfielder has shown his quality in recent matches and was named in the division’s best XI from last weekend alongside Martin Taylor.

“Jordon is 18-years-old and I think sometimes that slips people’s minds, especially as he is 6ft 2,” Mackay said.

“But he is showing maturity and gradually he is finding his way in this league. He has been fantastic for us and is creating a real comfortable partnership with John Eustace.

“I am delighted with the way Jordon is coming on and taking responsibility.”

Mutch, who has scored twice in nine appearances for the Hornets so far, initially joined Watford on a month-long youth loan but that has since been extended until January.

He joined Derby as a youngster but was soon signed by Birmingham and would have become the club’s youngest ever debutant at 15 had it not been for FA regulations.

Mutch, who made 17 appearances at Doncaster Rovers last season, finally made his debut in August 2008.

But his development was severely hampered when he needed surgery after rapid growth resulted in the player suffering fractures in both feet.
