Danny Graham claims his early season form proves his head wasn’t turned by Swansea City’s interest in the summer.

Both Paulo Sousa and his replacement Brendan Rodgers made enquiries about Graham in the summer but Watford rejected the approaches out of hand.

Graham has scored 12 goals in his last 13 competitive matches and the 25-year-old believes his form proves he always wanted to stay at Watford.

“If it had drew my attention I wouldn’t have done as well as I have done so far this season,” Graham said when asked about Swansea’s interest.

“There were enquiries made or bids put in but not once have I been in to see the gaffer [Malky Mackay] to ask what is going on.

“It is not a problem, I have just got my head down and I am happy at Watford, so it didn’t turn my head one bit.”

Graham is in his second season at Watford after joining the club from Carlisle United in the summer of 2009.

The former Middlesbrough trainee failed to score in his last 18 matches for Carlisle United.

And after an impressive start to his Hornets career, suffered a similar drought last season, when at one stage he only scored twice in 30 appearances.

The hard-working striker admits he cannot understand why he has suffered barren runs in the last two seasons but is desperate to avoid similar problems this year.

“I can’t put my finger on it and it is something I want to work on,” Graham said.

“I need to have more belief and as I am getting older I feel a lot more confident.

“I had a stop-start to my career, where I was out on loan here, there and everywhere and this is only my fourth proper season where I have been playing first team football, so I still have a lot to learn.

“I am only 25 and the best players say they never stop learning so I have much more to learn and hopefully I can improve.

“One of my aims is to have a consistent season. I know I won’t be consistent in every game but I do not want to have a season like last year and I want to add to the goals I scored.”

Despite the mid-season drought, Graham still ended his debut Championship campaign with 14 and is confident he can score more this season after his impressive start.

He said: “First and foremost I want to beat 14 to build on last season, so if I can do that then I will be delighted.

“I have eight so I have given myself a good chance to do that now. It is up to me, when I get the chances I have to keep putting them away.”

Watford are Graham’s seventh club since he was signed from non-league football by Middlesbrough, after loan spells at Darlington, Derby County, Leeds United and Blackpool.

The striker is loving life in Hertfordshire and claims the spirit at the Hornets’ London Colney training ground is the best he has seen.

“I honestly don’t know why the spirit is so good,” Graham admitted.

“It is the best team spirit I have seen at a club. Coming into training, the vibe around the place is great, we all get on and we have a laugh at the right times.

“When we have team stuff there is no egos and no little cliques here, there and everywhere and everyone is together and united.”
