Former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio has called for "appropriate action" against Saracens after Steve Borthwick failed to attend Monday's Heineken Cup launch.
Borthwick was told by the club to go on a squad bonding trip to the Munich Beer festival but Sarries could face a fine after he was the only team captain not to appear at the launch in Cardiff.
Dallaglio said: "I used to whinge like mad when I was captain of Wasps because I was made to go to every Heineken Cup launch, sometimes in the week of a very big game. But rules are rules and these guys [Heineken] are big guys in the competition and we wouldn't be here talking about it if it wasn't for them.
"It might be seen as good fun to go off to a beer festival but the reality is, if every club captain decided to do that, we wouldn't have much of a competition.
"I am sure the appropriate action will be taken by the appropriate people otherwise it sets a bit of a dangerous precedent for the other captains who don't necessarily want to attend."
