Marvin Sordell’s superb start to the season has been rewarded with a contract extension from Watford.

Sordell’s contract did not expire until next year but he has today signed a new deal which will keep him contracted to the club until the summer of 2013.

The 19-year-old is currently in the running for the PFA Championship Fans' Player of the Month for September after scoring five so far this season. Click here to vote

Mackay said: “I'm delighted that Marvin and his family think Watford is the best place for his development, in the care of myself and my staff.

“Sean Dyche worked with him at youth level, I worked with him while he was in the Reserves and we're both keen to nurture his talent carefully.

“Marvin certainly matured on loan at Tranmere last season and he was all the better for the experience.

“He's a credit to himself, for the way he has developed his own game and I'm very pleased that we've secured his services for another two years.”

The former Fulham youngster signed his first professional contract in April 2009 and scored his debut goal for the Hornets in last season’s League Cup defeat to Leeds United.

The striker’s first league goal for the Hornets came on the last day of the season away to Coventry City, following a loan spell at Tranmere Rovers where he scored once in eight appearances.
