ADRIAN BOOTHROYD is not getting carried away by Watford's good start to the season, but there is a growing sense that something special could be developing at Vicarage Road.
The Hornets were cheered from the pitch by their 1,000-strong army of fans following their fine 2-1 victory at Derby County. That win lifted Boothroyd's team up to fourth in the Championship and while it is far too early for talk of a promotion challenge, the end of the first month of the campaign has seen the Hornets establish a solid platform on which to build.
"I'm pleased with the start we've made but that's all it is," said the Watford boss. "What I'm more pleased about is the positive feel about the place and that the fans are enjoying themselves. A big factor in the success to date are the fans banging the drum and singing and enjoying themselves. Thanks for that, it is appreciated."
Chief executive Mark Ashton also senses an upbeat feel at the club and remarked: "There's an optimism and a buzz around the place and we've got a lot to look forward to. We're generally in good shape and it's getting better and better across the board and we're very positive about the future on all fronts."
