FIT again, and with the Cardiff saga behind him, Neal Ardley comes back into consideration tomorrow (Saturday, January 8). That will be welcome news for many Watford fans for Ardley will be joining a first-team squad that has disappointed in every game since his absence. However, there are some fans who are annoyed that Ardley was tempted by an offer which would have seen him more than double if not treble his Watford salary.
Ardley has recovered from his back injury and Ray Lewington took time out to forestall any possible reaction to his return on Saturday.
"He has been a fantastic professional. Seen from the outside, it might seem petulant that he has been upset. Let me tell you, it goes on everywhere but unfortunately this saga became public," said the Watford boss.
"I totally blame Cardiff, not the player. They are in the wrong and shouldn't have got to him, promising him a king's ransom and turning his head for a little while. Yes, he was on reduced wages from the previous season and in turn much reduced from what he earned in the Premiership. He is a player in the twilight of his career and has been reportedly offered three times his salary here. He is only a human being. Put yourselves in his position."
