WATFORD may shelve the 4-4-2 formation not only for the forthcoming cup ties but for the League campaign as well.

"We have to do something to change things because whatever we are doing, it is not working at the moment. We will have a look at the system and try one or two things out. I have not ruled anything out," said Watford boss Ray Lewington, who looks set to be missing Sean Dyche for Fulham's visit as he recovers from a groin injury.

There may also be doubts about Neil Cox and James Chambers after both sustained muscle problems in Monday's 2-1 defeat at Brighton.

"They are strains, not tears. They are fatigue injuries from too many games in too few days. Coxy was struggling with it at Brighton but having made three substitutions, we could not do anything with regard to taking him off. James Chambers also picked up the calf strain during the second-half at Brighton," said the Watford boss.

The Hornets are also set to have to go into battle against Fulham without on-loan keeper Paul Jones, who Wolves do not want cup tied. Watford did seek permission for him to play, but Lewington said yesterday (Thursday, January 6) afternoon: "It is looking more no than yes."

However, Jones is eligible for Tuesday's game, having not been selected for Wolves in the League Cup, so Alec Chamberlain may only face the Cottagers.

Chamberlain has been unfortunate because Watford had to obtain goalkeeping cover when Richard Lee was injured and there is always the understanding a loan player initially is given preference with regard to team selection.

So Watford will face Fulham without a substitute keeper.

"We knew we would have to go into Fulham without goalkeeping cover. It was hard enough getting a keeper in before Christmas as it was," said Lewington.
