WATFORD are hoping to sign Northwood's 24-year-old centre-half, Jay Demerit.
Ray Lewington is in talks with the the former American League defender who has international clearance. He will meet the player's agent and the trialist next week with a view to completing the deal.
Said the Watford boss: "We have to look at the legality and the forms and they are OK. I think he has got a chance. I liked him the first time I saw him and ever since then, I have been waiting for something to happen to prove me wrong but on the performance against Zaragoza, and in his other displays, I have got to consider him. He is very pleased at our interest.
"He has a fantastic leap and really attacks the ball. He gets tight, is very committed and incredibly powerful in the air "We need someone like that and we are so bare with Gayley out. That would all slot in quite nicely for us. I am pleased Northwood have been so accommodating with us and allowed us to see him in training," Lewington added.
