Reserve team coach Malky Mackay has been given the temporary job of replacing Aidy Boothroyd after the Watford manager left the club last night.
Mackay, 36, has been appointed caretaker manager and will be assisted by first team coaches Martin Hunter and Alec Chamberlain and former Hornets’ defender Sean Dyche, who currently works for the club’s academy.
Boothroyd, who had been at the club for three-and-a-half years, left by “mutual consent” yesterday with the club sitting 21st in the Championship, with only goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone.
The Yorkshireman has enjoyed some success at Vicarage Road, leading the club into the Premiership in 2006 and reaching the FA Cup semi finals in the same season.
