Jobi McAnuff marked his return to fitness after a back injury with a goal in the Reserves' 2-1 win at Peterborough yesterday afternoon.
The Watford winger played 90 minutes to stake a claim for a place in the first team in their game at Southampton on Saturday.
It was his first action since coming on as a substitute during Watford's 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United last month.
Aidy Boothroyd made the trip down to London Road and the manager will have been pleased to watch McAnuff make an impact during the match. A 25-yard effort earned the Hornets an equaliser after Sergio Torres' opener.
The away side earned the narrow victory when teenage striker Marvin Sordell netted. The 17-year-old struck his eighth goal in all competitions this season from close range.
