Al Bangura played the whole match for Sierra Leone in their 4-1 defeat to Nigeria on Saturday.
The Watford midfielder made his debut for his country in the World Cup qualifier in Nigeria. But the 20-year-old's Watford future could be in doubt after he went away without manager Aidy Boothroyd's permission.
Boothroyd said: "I didn't think it was a good idea and told him I didn't want him to go, and I'll be dealing with that issue when he comes back. But I'm not very happy about it."
Bangura is expected to return to Watford's London Colney training base tomorrow.
