A nine-year-old schoolgirl has a bright future after excelling in two sports.
Ruby Spurr, who lives in Nascot Wood, Watford, received an offer to join the Emerging Talent Centre at Tottenham Hotspur, having won the Under-9 Girls Hertfordshire County Tennis Singles Championship in August.
The Year 4 pupil at Nascot Wood Junior School, is yet to decide which sport she favours, explaining: "I just love playing sports, it's great to do something I love with my friends."
After two weeks of trials for Tottenham, Ruby was selected to join the FA's funded ETC scheme, which is held weekly in Goffs Oak.
Mum Beci said: "Ruby's had an incredible year but she deserves it all because she works so hard.
"As you can imagine our schedule is very busy so our evenings and weekends are a juggling act but we will do everything we can to support her."
Ruby, who started tennis aged five, plays at Rickmansworth Tennis Club and Langley Tennis Club in Kings Langley. She also attends county training once a month at Gosling Sports Centre.
Ruby only started playing football at seven but she’s enjoyed a rapid rise. After one season with Garston Ladies, Ruby joined boys team Sarratt Rebels, where she became the first girl to be named the Manager’s Player of The Year.
She also attends a Performance Development Squad at both Watford and Chelsea, as well as commitments to Watford Ladies.
Dad James said: "Football is something she is really passionate about, she's always in the garden with her two younger brothers playing football and practicing her skills."
Sports-mad Ruby trains six days a week but always finds time to schedule in her school homework and attend social events with friends.
Mum Beci said: "We know how important it is to get a good education and also spend time socially with friends so we always make sure Ruby can still be the lovely little girl she is."
