There are certain standards of behaviour that are expected in a boardroom of any business. Doing partial handstands on the table is not one of them – unless your name happens to be Elton John.

A Watford Observer photographer was in attendance to capture what has proven to be a historic moment when the music legend and Hornets fan attended his first board meeting at Vicarage Road on April 9, 1974.

Everything was as expected for one of the photos as Elton sat round the table with chairman Jim Bonser, his fellow directors and manager Mike Keen.

Whether it was at the suggestion of the photographer or Elton’s idea is not known, but the picture shoot took an interesting twist when the future Hornets owner and chairman leapt on the table as if he were on stage with his piano.

Most of those in the room saw the funny side of it – except the Watford chairman, who looked rather unamused by the behaviour.
