In-form Oxhey Jets made it ten games unbeaten and continued their climb up the Combined Counties League Division One table after a thumping 4-0 victory over ten-man Holmer Green last night.

Dave Barnes and Tom Inch’s side had lost 3-1 to the same opponents during their nightmare start to the season, but goals from Patrick Brander, George Rice, Dom Mosca and Luke Nugent secured an emphatic win against the side sixth in the table.

It continued a special month for the club following Saturday’s 3-1 win over Windsor, the announcement that Three Rivers councillors had agreed funding of almost £1million for a new 3G pitch and extensive renovations to the Boundary Stadium clubhouse, and their annual Remembrance fixture against the Royal Navy Under-23 side.

Both sides looked to play good football from the outset and chances came and went before Brander ran at the defence and his shot looked bound for the side netting but nestled inside the post to make it 1-0 in the 29th minute.

Jets went up a gear and again it was Rice who was causing problems, hassling and shutting down the visitors, before he went clear on goal, only to be tripped by Anthony Tyson who was shown a straight red card.

The hosts smelt blood, went for the jugular and in first-half stoppage time Rice latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted it home to double his side’s advantage at the break.

Two goals became three within two minutes of the restart as Mosca kept up his fine scoring run from inside the area.

Holmer, to their credit, kept going but the final blow was to be delivered after ‘one minute Nugs’ came on.

Having received a yellow card within approximately 35 seconds of coming off the bench on Saturday, Nugent made a much more positive impact a minute after entering the fray this time, getting the final touch to make it 4-0 after 75 minutes.

The game stayed competitive and Holmer tried hard to get a consolation, forcing Lewis Lavin into a flying save in the closing stages to ensure he kept his clean sheet.
