Kings Langley bounced back from their previous defeat against Thame United to register a resounding 3-1 win away at Biggleswade, currently on the crest of a wave after their home draw with York City in the FA Cup.

New signing Tami Ogunnowo was named amongst the substitutes for last night’s fixture on the brand-new surface at The Eyrie, as manager Jordan Parkes opted for teenagers Bradley Smith and Henry Burt to join Juud Farrant and Declan Phillips in a line-up with the accent on youth.

The home side started strongly with a triple chance in the second minute which the Kings defence repelled at each opportunity.

A few minutes later it was Smith’s turn to get the visitors going, running at the home defence and drawing a clumsy challenge from Biggleswade defender Kymani Skyers, who was subsequently booked and spent the rest of the game cautious of picking up a second yellow card.

It didn’t take long for the contest to truly come to life as Rayan Clarke sprung the offside trap, but found his near-post effort turned away by George Rose.

However, it was the hosts who struck first when, with the Kings defence pushing high, Biggleswade launched a quick counter-attack and Amir Hadi struck with a sublime finish in the 19th minute.

It took Kings only four minutes to level though, as Lance Williams displayed strength on the edge of the box before he set the ball to the onrushing Phillips who smashed his effort in via the woodwork.

The game swung in both directions for a while before Kings began to assert their dominance on proceedings.

Their efforts were rewarded with two minutes of the first half remaining when right-back James Towell ghosted in at the far post to slam home his first goal for the club.

It didn’t take long after the half-time break for Kings to extend their lead. The ever-dangerous Clarke burst into the box and was felled before dusting himself off and coolly despatching the resulting spot-kick in the 49th minute.

Keeper Cian Moore, who had an otherwise solid night between the posts, had one moment he will want to forget when he came rushing out only to watch a long-range lob float just wide of his vacated goal.

The home side looked to create more chances but the defensive pairing of Isaac Pedro and Charne Lemba, along with the centre-midfield duo of Darnell-Joe Luke and Burt, held firm.

Kings almost netted a fourth in the dying moments as substitute Lewis Duberry combined with fellow substitute Qasim Khan, only for the stretching striker to direct the ball over the bar.
