Young Watford striker Mathis Eboue scored the title-winning goal for England Under-16s in a tournament in Spain this week.

Eboue started his career in the Arsenal academy before making the very short move to the training ground next door in London Colney.

The four-team event was played at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia, with the Three Lions up against Ukraine, France and Israel.

Eboue played the first 75 minutes of England’s opening game which was a 3-0 victory over Ukraine.

He then came off the bench with just over half an hour to go as England followed up with a 2-1 success against Israel in their second match.

Then, in the final fixture, the Hornets Academy player netted the only goal as France were beaten 1-0, giving England success in the tournament.

A member of Watford’s Under-16 squad, last month Eboue scored an 88th-minute equaliser for the Hornets in an Under-17 PDL Cup tie with Luton Town that finished 1-1.

He is the son of former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue, who spent seven years with the North London club.

At the start of 2024, Eboue was called up to an England Under-15 training camp and has continued to be involved with the national side.

Eboue senior, who won the FA Cup and was a beaten Champions League finalist during more than 200 appearances for the Gunners, has spoken in the past about how his son had the option to join both Arsenal and Chelsea when he was very young.

“He had two choices, Chelsea and Arsenal,” said Eboue.

“I didn't tell him anything, I said: 'Mathis it's up to you. It doesn't matter where, I want you to be happy'.

“And he said to me: 'Daddy I want to play for Arsenal. I like Arsenal and you used to play here too, the people they love you, so I want to play here'."
