Watford have given a new contract to their Georgian international forward Giorgi Chakvetadze that will run until at least 2029.
The 24-year-old first moved to Vicarage Road on a season-long loan from Belgian club KAA Gent just over a year ago, but then the transfer was made permanent in January.
During the summer he was outstanding for his country in the Euro 24 finals, and has continued that form into the new Championship season.
He has played 44 times in total for the Hornets, and has two goals to his credit including a stunning free-kick in the 3-2 win away at Millwall on the first day of the season.
Tom Cleverley spoke glowingly of the midfielder after he committed his future to the Golden Boys.
“He’s a fantastic example for our younger players on how focusing on what’s really important in your life – if you truly want to make it as a professional – matters,” he said, on the club’s official website.
“He’s quiet but so determined, leading by example with his professionalism and his passion for improving as a footballer and helping to bring success to our club.
“Let’s hope he can be a big part of our future and that success we all want.”
Chakvetadze began his career with Dinamo Tbilisi and then moved to Gent in 2017, as well as having spells on loan at Hamburger SV in Germany and Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia.
He has 31 caps for his country and has scored nine goals during that time, playing in all four of Georgia’s games in the Euro 24 finals in Germany in the summer.
The forward played in both Nations League games for his country during the international break earlier this month, and scored in the 4-1 win over Czechia.
Before breaking into the senior team, Chakvetadze picked up caps at Under-21, Under-19, Under-18 and Under-17 levels.
