The decision to loan last season’s top scorer Mileta Rajovic to Danish side Brondby was taken because Watford wanted to enable the striker to have more game time than they felt they could offer him.

The 25-year-old returns to his homeland until the end of the season, and Brondby do not have an option to buy the player.

The Watford Observer understands the Hornet do have a clause that would allow them to recall Rajovic if necessary.

“I wanted to be fair to Mileta and have him get a lot more game time than is likely on offer if he stays with us right now, given the other options we’ve been able to add and, to a degree, our preferred formation,” said Tom Cleverley

“This is only a loan and we see this as part of a development plan for Mileta - not an exit plan.

“Mileta is a player who trains every day in the way I love players to train and the way I used to approach my work: focused, committed and determined to improve.

“In terms of his career, he’s destined to make the best out of his potential because of his great attitude towards his work.

“As I said, it’s only a loan and we absolutely don’t want to rule out working with Mileta in the future.”

For Rajovic the move means he returns to a club he played for in his younger days.

“It is of course special to move back to the club I played for as a youth player,” he said.

“I started at Brøndby at 11, and then moved away as a second year Under-19 player, so it is big for me to return, even though I took a different road to the Superliga squad.

“As a youngster, I remember I looked up at Brøndby Stadium when I walked out to practice, so going there to play now is something I've dreamt of.

“I am now looking forward to getting started, and then I hope I can get in and contribute with scoring goals in front of the club's fantastic fans, because that has been a big dream for me.”

Brondby’s sporting director Carsten Jensen said: “Mileta has, as many other football players, faced struggles in his career and taken a detour to get here.

“But despite of what he has faced, he has worked hard and shown a strong mentality, and no matter where he has played, he has shown that he can score goals.

“The last couple of years there were a lot of goals, first at Kalmar and then at Watford, and we are looking forward to using his qualities in our offense.”

Brondby, who currently sit fifth in the Superliga, are next in action on Sunday September 15 when they host Sønderjyske.
