A more promising performance and greater effort by Oxhey Jets was not enough to save them a fourth straight league defeat as Hillingdon Borough came from behind to win 3-2 at the Boundary Stadium last night.

The fitness and attitude of the Jets players had been criticised on the club’s website following Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Holmer Green, but this latest reverse in Division One of the Combined Counties League owed more to defensive errors being punished.

The hosts would have been hoping to start strongly but they fell behind after just four minutes when a goalkeeping clearance was shut down and deflected into the net by Renzo Alves.

Jets did not fold and went on the attack and their efforts were rewarded in the 20th minute when a superb through ball by Luke Nugent played in Dom Mosca who finished well to equalise.

The home side took the lead 13 minutes later when another excellent pass played in Mosca again and the result was the same precise execution to make it 2-1.

The competitive nature of the contest continued after the break but favoured the visitors a little, Hillingdon equalising when a mistake led to a corner and poor defending saw Clayton Afonso side foot home after 57 minutes.

The visitors took the upper hand as Jets tired and injuries led to withdrawals.

Jets were still on course for a draw though, until a needless mistake led to a free-kick being conceded on the edge of the box and Denerson Moreira struck a blistering shot which beat the keeper for power to make it 3-2.

Jets tried to get back on terms but David Lopes was given a second yellow for a challenge on the keeper as they pushed for a leveller, the sending off ending hopes of a third goal.
