Watford Under-21s made it two wins from two league games as they came away from Hull City with a 3-1 win this afternoon.
Added to their 1-0 home win over Fleetwood Town last week, it means Charlie Daniels’ side sit second in the Premier League Development League South table on six points – only behind leaders Charlton Athletic on goal difference.
The Watford team included Leo Ramirez-Espain, who made an impressive appearance from the bench when the first team beat MK Dons 5-0 in the Carabao Cup last week.
Chances were at a premium early on but the home side threatened in the 25th minute when Pharrell Brown curled a free-kick from the edge of the area just over the top.
But it was the Hornets who made the breakthrough four minutes later when Tobi Adeyemo netted to back up his winning penalty against Fleetwood last week.
That goal was enough for Watford to lead 1-0 at the break.
The advantage was extended 11 minutes into the second period through Jonathan Lawson, and in the 59th minute Watford tightened their grip on proceedings when Adeyemo scored his second to make it 3-0.
The home side pulled one back with 11 minutes to go when Sincere Hall drove a shot past Jonathan Macaulay from just outside the box.
The closest the hosts came to narrowing the gap further was two minutes from time when Brown’s shot hit the base of the post.
However, it was nowhere near enough to prevent Watford maintaining their winning start to the season.
Next up for the young Hornets is a home game with Birmingham City on Bank Holiday Monday (August 26), a fixture which is due to take place at Vicarage Road with a 2pm kick-off.
Watford: Macaulay; Mullins, Watkiss, Ramirez-Espain, Clarridge, Abbot, Eames, Coyne, Adeyemo, Lawson, Adu-Poku. Subs: Ortelli, Torres, Sikiru, Nabizada, Garcia-Romero
