Both Yaser Asprilla and Wes Hoedt are working at London Colney, and the Colombian may come into contention for Saturday’s home game with Stoke City.

Asprilla was at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night, celebrating with his teammates at the side of the pitch after the 5-0 cup win over MK Dons.

He missed the start of pre-season as he was away with his country at the Copa America, and had an extended period of leave before returning to the training ground.

Throughout the summer, he has been linked with moves all over the place both in Europe and England.

However, his future is somewhat muddled by a dispute between two agents who both claim to represent Asprilla.

“Yaser’s situation is not one I’ve been massively involved with, but he’s rejoined the training group and he’s bright and looks happy,” said head coach Tom Cleverley.

“It’s nice to see his ability on a daily basis again, but we know his future might lay elsewhere.

“It’ll be a late decision on his fitness for Saturday, and his mindset really.

“I’ll sit down with him tomorrow morning and see where his mind is, and see how his legs feel, and make a decision.

“You have to take these case by case. It’s my job as the coach to try and see in the mind of someone and see if he’s going to give everything for the team because you’d be leaving him out for someone who is going to give everything for the team.

“It’s important I make that right call.”

Hoedt has been sidelined since limping out of the pre-season game at Wycombe with a knee injury.

He’s undergoing rehab work at London Colney but rumours persist about his future too, with moves to Turkey and Saudi Arabia suggested.

“Wes is progressing well, and we hope to see him back this side of the international break,” said Cleverley.

“Like all our best players, there’s been a lot of interest in him.

“It’s important that neither my or Wes’s eyes are taken off the ball for as long as he’s a Watford player.

“For as long as he is – and I expect him to be – he will be part of the plans.”

One positive piece of news is that midfielder Tim Dele-Bashiru, who picked up a knock late in Tuesday’s win over MK Dons, is fit and available for Saturday.

“Tom is fine, he’s trained today and we’re really pleased about that,” said the Watford boss.

“He was about to come off when he went down on Tuesday and we were a little bit worried, but he’s fine.”

Cleverley admits that dealing with the transfer window during his first pre-season has presented its challenges.

“I’ve not quite found the right balance of being involved and not being involved,” he confessed.

“Do you speak to agents or do you not? I’ll need to find that right balance.

“Maybe it has engulfed me a little bit but what it won’t do is take my eye off the ball of improving the players we already have here.

“It’s been something that I’ll have to reflect on, and try to improve on. It’s all part of the learning process for me.”
