There were plenty of positives for Oxhey Jets to take from their trip to Langley but they were left to count the cost of missed chances after a 1-0 defeat against the early-season leaders in Division One of the Combined Counties League.
The visitors were excellent in the first half of Saturday’s contest and had a fine chance to take the lead but Elliot Harris’ decision to go for a lob proved the wrong one.
Even better opportunities were to come and go when Jets looked odds-on to capitalise from two goalmouth scrambles, only for James Kimber to block one of his side’s efforts while another gilt-edged opening was headed over.
The away side were not as in control after the break and conceded what proved to be the winner during a spell of pressure which saw Langley get on top in midfield.
Jets thought they had equalised when substitute Patrick Brander sprinted clear and slotted home, only to be denied by a late and tight offside decision.
The South Oxhey side are back on the road tomorrow night when they make the trip to Hayes to face Brook House.
