The referee has been appointed for Watford’s opening game of the Championship season on Saturday.

It has been announced on the EFL website that John Busby is due to be in charge when the Hornets face Millwall at the Den.

Busby took charge of three matches involving Watford last season, two of which ended in home defeats – the 1-0 reverse against Cardiff City in February and the 4-1 loss to Bristol City on Boxing Day.

Prior to that though, the Oxfordshire official was in the middle for the 2-1 victory at Hull City at the start of December in which Wes Hoedt scored his wonder goal from just past the halfway line.

Busby officiated 32 league games last season, issuing a total of 121 yellow cards and one red.

Alex James and Bhupinder Singh Gill have been named as the assistant referees for the 12.30pm kick-off, with Robert Massey-Ellis due to be on fourth official duties.
