Both goals came in the first seven minutes as Watford ended their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw against Brentford at Vicarage Road.

With Wes Hoedt injured, the returning Moussa Sissoko wore the armband and Francisco Sierralta (with large white head plaster) came into the back three.

Jeremy Ngakia started as the left wing-back while Vakoun Bayo led the forward line.

England striker Ivan Toney, the subject of much transfer speculation this summer, was not in the Brentford squad.

The Hornets were caught cold by conceding an early goal where both the ease of the cross and the header were concerning, but they built on an equaliser gifted to them by visiting keeper Flekken and showed some good attacking intent.

They broke quickly, used the wing-backs well but were also often caught out at the back with passes into the box slid between the back three.

The second half was even with Dan Bachmann making one impressive save, and Giorgi Chakvetadze looking the Hornet’s biggest threat while Edo Kayembe was very comfortable in the No.10 role.

Bit too simple really as Trevitt hits an early cross from the right and Schade climbs highest to loop a header over Bachmann

7 - Watford 1 (Sissoko) Brentford 1

The visitors get caught trying to play possession football in their own box and Bayo intercepts, the ball runs to Sissoko, he takes a touch to go past a defender and then scores with a deflected shot.

12 - Norgaard is slipped into the box but Bachmann is quick off his line and makes a good save.

20 - Kayembe sprays the ball out to Ngakia on the left, he cuts inside and along the by-line but his low cross-shot is blocked at the base of the post by Flekken.

28 - Flekken's blushes saved as he fumbles a Kayembe corner into his own net, but referee Mr Gill awards a foul (though not on the keeper).

30 - Another very good save from Bachmann who flies off his line to block at the feet of Mbeumo who breaks free into the box.

Half-time: Watford 1 Brentford 1

55 - Superb turn and run from Chakvedatze allowed him to free Bayo on the left of the box, and the striker's shot was pushed round the post by replacement keeper Cox.

56 - Lightning quick break from Brentford saw Schade set free in the box. He poked the ball past the advancing Bachmann but it then hit his heel and bounced backwards and away from him.

59 - Jensen's corner was met by Schade who looped a header over the top.

65 - Bachmann makes another excellent save as Brentford burst out of defence, Mbeumo gets in behind Pollock but then sees his low drive stopped by the diving Austrian keeper.

76 - Jensen played the ball into the feet of Mbeumo, who turned and hit a rising effort over the bar.
