Watford will avoid relegation in the 2024/25 season – but only just.

The football traders at the club’s betting partner Spreadex have predicted the Hornets will end the season with between 54.5 and 56.5 points, and will stay up by two points.

Oxford (46-48), Plymouth (49-51) and Cardiff (52.5-54.5) are the three sides Spreadex believe will be heading into League One, with Watford finishing 19th, just above Preston (53.5-55.5) and Bristol City (54.5-56.5).

As these are spread betting prices, if you think Watford will do better than Spreadex predict, you would ‘buy’ at 56.5. If you think they they’ll do worse, you would ‘sell’ at 54.5.

For example, if you buy for £5 at 56.5 and Watford finished on 60 points, you would win £17.50 (which is £5 for each point better than 56.5).

However, if the Hornets ended the season on 52 points, you would lose £22.50 (which is £5 for each point worse than 56.5).

At the other end of the table, Spreadex have Leeds winning the league with a prediction of 83.5 to 85.5 points.

Burnley will bounce immediately back to the Premier League in second place, the traders say, with a points total of between 79 and 81.

The play-off places, according to Spreadex, will be filled by Luton (74-76), Middlesbrough (71.5-73.5), Coventry (71-73) and West Brom (68.5-70.5).

In the Finishing Position spread market, Watford are quoted at 14.75-16.25 (you would ‘sell’ at 14.25 if you think Watford are going to do better, and ‘buy’ at 16.25 if you think they’re going to do worse).

Spreadex offer both spread betting and fixed odds markets, and the optimistic among the Watford faithful can back them to get promoted at 14/1 in the latter.

The Hornets are 6/1 to end the season in the top six, and 7/4 to finish in the top half.
