An impressive early goal from Giorgi Chakvetadze counted for nothing as Wycombe came back from a goal down to win 3-2.
It was a disjointed and disappointing performance from Watford – there were some decent individual performances but collectively it wasn’t impressive.
The most significant piece of team news was the return to the starting line-up of captain Hoedt, but he was to limp out of the game before half-time.
Chakvetadze made his first public outing of pre-season, but there was no Yaser Asprilla, Rocco Vata, Ken Sema or Francisco Sierralta.
Imran Louza wasn’t in the squad but was at the game.
Here’s how the action unfolded:
3 - Wycombe have the ball in the net but it's rightly disallowed for a foul on Bond
9 - Bond springs away to his right and pushes a firm header from Leahy to safety after he met a cross from McCleary unmarked.
12 – Wycombe 0 Watford 1 (Chakvetadze).
All his own work from Giorgi who skips past a series of challenges as he cuts across the box from left to right before guiding a low shot back across the keeper into the bottom corner.
19 - Tikvic gives possession away just outside his own box, and when the ball is crossed Lubala meets it with a side-footed effort that Bond drops to smother.
35 - Ince curls a free-kick from 25 yards, the ball clips the wall and changes direction, but also slows down so that Bishop can recover and collect
42 – Wycombe 1 (Lubala) Watford 1
Controversy and confrontation as Hoedt lands awkwardly midway inside his own half and immediately waves for attention. Referee Mr Hicks lets play go on and Wycombe are through with two players onto keeper Bond. The ball is rolled square and Lubala taps in. Porteous is far from happy and there's some shoving and scuffling with him and the scorer. Goal stands though.
Half time: Wycombe 1 Watford 1
47 - A free-kick isn't cleared and the ball is worked to Ince who, from just outside the box, curls a shot just wide.
47 – Wycombe 2 (Scowen) Watford 1
Not a great moment for Bond, who stretches to reach Bakinson's 20-yard effort but only pushes it up in the air, allowing Scowen to poach from close range
66 - Leahy curls a free-kick up and over the wall, the ball coming back off the bar.
74 - Adu-Poku did well to get to the by-line on the right but his cross to the back post was met by Morris with a volley that he screwed well wide.
77 - Kayembe burst forward and played the ball to Adu-Poku on the right. He hit a first-time cross which eluded in the incoming Rajovic and Ince.
79 – Wycombe 3 (Kone) Watford 1
Leahy struck a rising shot from 25 yards, the ball came back off the bar and Kone steered a header into the net.
90+2 – Wycombe 3 Watford 2 (Rajovic)
Ince struck a firm shot from just outside the box. Bishop parried and Rajovic was first to the loose ball and poked it into the net.
90+4 - Kayembe let fly from 25 yards and his shot whistled just wide with Bishop beaten
