Millwall will pay tribute to their late goalkeeper Matija Sarkic before the opening game of the Championship season against Watford on August 10.
The 26-year-old died suddenly on Saturday, June 15 and the Lions have announced how they intend to honour the memory of the Montenegro international.
Sarkic’s parents, Bojan and Natalie, brothers Oliver and Danilo, and partner Phoebe will be “honoured” guests of the club for what is certain to be an emotional occasion when they face the Hornets.
From 12.15pm, the Sarkic family will be pitchside for the commemorations, beginning with the playing of a tribute video on the big screen.
When this ends, the players and officials, who will be wearing black armbands, will walk out the tunnel with both captains carrying wreaths.
A minute’s applause will then be held as both teams gather at the centre circle, before the captains lay their wreaths behind each goal prior to the 12.30pm kick-off.
Millwall are urging fans to take their seats early to ensure they do not miss any of the tributes.
The Lions have confirmed they will be retiring the No.20 shirt in memory of ‘Mati’, while plans are underway for a mural painting of the goalkeeper in the Cold Blow Lane concourse.
The club will also give fans the chance to vote for their Save of the Season’, with the winner receiving the Matija Sakic Award.
