Fans travelling to watch Watford tomorrow’s friendly at Gillingham are likely to see the first appearances of the summer from both Giorgi Chakvetadze and Ryan Porteous, plus the return of Moussa Sissoko.
Chakvetadze and Porteous had extremely contrasting experiences at the Euro 24 finals in Germany.
Georgia progressed through their group including a memorable win over Portugal before going out to eventual champions Spain in the last 16.
It was a first major finals for the Georgians, and Chakvetadze was given some glowing reviews in the media.
It was very different for Porteous: he was sent off before half-time of Scotland’s opening 5-1 defeat to Germany, and was handed a two-game ban which meant he didn’t play again as his teammates were eliminated.
Meanwhile Sissoko – who watched the friendly at Stevenage from the stands – is due to make his Watford return in the game at the Priestfield Stadium (3pm kick-off) after two seasons with Nantes in France.
“The plan is for Moussa, Ryan and Giorgi to be involved at Gillingham and get the minutes they need,” said Tom Cleverley.
“They’ll probably start with 45 minutes, and the rest of the squad who have played in the last two games will be ready to do 90 minutes.
“The squad is now coming together and there are some really good players returning.
“Having Jeremy Ngakia back has been another plus point in the last couple of weeks, and then again we’ve got Moussa, Ryan and Giorgi at London Colney ready to be unleashed.”
The game at Gillingham tomorrow will be streamed live at watfordfc.com, and a video match pass costs £5.
The stream, which will feature two-camera coverage and neutral commentary, is available on the club’s new iFollow match streaming service.
iFollow is replacing the Hive Live platform ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with video and audio subscriptions that will kick in for the start of the Sky Bet Championship season already available.
In order to access the service, Watford supporters who previously used Hive Live will need to create a new iFollow account by clicking on ‘Log In’, which is located in the top right-hand corner of every page on watfordfc.com, and then ‘Register’.
While iFollow match streaming will be available via desktop and mobile at watfordfc.com, Hornets fans will no longer be able to watch or listen to matches on the official club app.
